One year review
First, for those that had problems at the one year mark — thank you for reminding me! I had planned on buying the extended warranty prior to my expiration (not sure if it is still in effect, but I did get 3 extra months over the standard one year warranty by registering on-line). Anyway, so far I am extremely satisfied with my purchase! I had done much research prior to buying my first LCD and it was the massive amount of 5-stars on Amazon and all of the comments from the satisfied buyers that clinched the deal — although I did go to a store to view the quality first-hand. Even though I waited for a sale to patronize one of my local stores, since I was hesitant to purchase an item this large on-line for fear of damage in transit, Amazon’s price and service just could not be beat. All my fear’s went out the window with Amazon’s white-glove delivery service — it was first class (although I did not need them to do anything more than remove the outer box to confirm that the TV was not physically damaged) — the delivery people were friendly and courteous, and it had not been in a huge truck filled with lots of boxes — just a small van, for “just my tv” (almost :-)

The image quality is second to none — with the sound being quite good, but I am only using the Surround-Sound speakers that are in the unit and am more than happy with them — excellent clarity and fine for those that do not need to blast out the room (I’m sure with external speakers it would sound incredible!). It is truly a pleasure to watch Blu-Ray discs with this TV. The colors and clarity are tack on — compared to others that I saw while in the store. Only one thing — for those who had not viewed a movie on HD or Blu-Ray before: some of those actors and actresses are not as perfect as you may have originally thought. :-)

Another clincher for this tv over some others (same with the Blu-Ray player) was ease of applying upgrades. My tv/player is not hooked up to any cable, internet, etc but I can easily download the firmware onto a dedicated pen-drive and quickly apply them to the units. Just be careful to follow the easy instructions and the process is effortless.

There is only one ‘problem’ that I can think of in the year that I have had the unit — I had set the Mhz rate to 120 when I first set up the tv, thinking since I purchased it because of the faster-than-others rating, I should use it. I was shocked to watch my first Blu-Ray and watch what appeared to be a cheap soap opera — come to find out that IS what happens at 120 Hz. Well, it was terrible and at first I was disappointed — it was cool to see so much detail, but it did not feel like a movie anymore. I did a little research and found out that only for gaming and such do you need the 120 Hz setting; set at 60, the picture is still crystal clear but you feel like you are watching a movie! “Problem” solved! That’s it–overall no problems, no issues, just a great tv! Hope you enjoy yours as well!

Outstanding, esp w/Blu-ray
Bought mine a week ago at Fred Meyer for about $70 less than listed here. Absolutely love it. Picture quality with HD cable is great – with blu-ray it’s unbelievably good. Chose 120mhz instead of 60mhz because I watch a lot of football, and was not disappointed with the clarity despite fast-moving action.

samsung ln40650 – also problems at 1 yr mark
I also have just crossed the 1 yr mark ( bought mine yr ago September). And wouldnt you know its just past 1 Yr warranty. I am getting what looks like a black mist about 5 inches across on the lower right corner of screen.

Really notice it when there is a bright image on screen. Have not dealt with Samsung yet, not looking forward to it, pretty sure its not covered. Geez only lasted one year, my 13 year old Sony CRT 32″ is still humming along just fine!

Well, what can I say, I tested the waters of LCD’s and liked the image, weight etc; but the life of these things, not to happy. Wonder if the LED version of these hold up any longer? Well time to call Samsung and get the run-around.

BUY THE WARRANTY!!!!!! Good TV Picture, Though.
I have owned this Television for One Year (One year and One day, actually). It has been great up until today. Almost like a timer (1day after the manufacturer warranty ran out), a line appeared on the screen. UNBELIEVABLE… one day after the warranty. However, I did buy the NEW warranty plan (4 year) and called them and they are setting up the repairman to come to my home. I can update this once it gets fixed for certain, but for now, I am SOOOOO HAPPY that I bought the repair warranty. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE buy a warranty; I did a search on the internet and other people also had these lines show up DAYS after the warranty expired. Unbelievable. Samsung should be held accountable. But, I must admit, its one of the best looking TVs I’ve seen. The picture outdoes all of the houses I’ve been into (except for the ones with the same TV). The red isnt bad, but then again there is red in my color scheme for the living room, so it does not affect me that much. The sound is kinda poor, but I have my surround sound hooked up so that doesnt bother me either. Hope this helps someone and convince you to BUY THE WARRANTY!!!!!!!

One whole year and still loving it…
Had it just over a year and its still the best thing that happened to my living room! If you are having troubles on deciding look no further. Do yourself a favor and pick it up ASAP! It has price on it but as soon as you plug on your Playstation3 and run a Bluray or game you can easily forget about that price and just enjoy this trophy of labor. Cheers!!

Bad Electronics
I am glad I purchased the warranty on this since I have had it replaced and several of the parts replaced on my second unit. When it works there are few better televisions that can match the picture quality at the price (Sony or Samsung). Too bad it’s not reliable.

Sharp AQUOS LC-46SE94U
I bought the Sharp AQUOS LC-46SE94U today and the picture is pretty good. The picture quality for standard def, blue ray and dvds are great. The menu options are not as advanced as a newer sumsung but are good enough. The black color is good. Overall the SE model looks great. The leather around the edges is not real but not noticable. The internet widgets are ok, they dont include netflix. The sound quality is ok. I got a good deal at a local store, came out to 1200 including taxes, for a 46 inch 1080p, 120HZ its a decent price. The best part of the TV is that it does not have any glare on the TV. You should note that there is a software update for this tv that you will have to download onto a usb drive and install.

I also have samsung 650 46 inch tv – I would say that this tv compares pretty well. The standard defention channels are much better. The features are much more expansive on the samsungs but they also cost more.

Top-tier image quality
This is among the best quality TVs made in 2008.

There are now sets with better picture quality, such as the Limited Edition series (also from Sharp) which use LED backlighting, but they are quite expensive.

There are many brands of television, but Samsung and Sharp manufacture the vast majority of LCD panels.

Other brands, even big names like Sony, Toshiba, and Pioneer, only buy panels from manufacturers and build electronics around them. Sony, in particular, charges quite a lot for their brand name even though they didn’t even make the panel!

Some Sharp panels from past models were known for having a color banding problem. This was endemic in Sharp televisions for a long time, though most peopled did not notice. I am happy to report that this set does not suffer the same problem.

Absolute contrast is 3000:1, 3 times that of most other sets. Dynamic contrast (contrast achieved by adjusting the intensity of the backlight) is 27,000:1, and in practice, the brightness this set can produce is almost over the top. It literally hurts my eyes and lights up the entire living room, though I usually keep it at low settings because I am not into intensely bright screens.

My 46″ set uses about 150W of power at 20% backlight — not bad. It can use just over 300W at full brightness (actual measurement).

The internet service, “Aquos Connect”, is fairly worthless. It is slow, takes up screen space (or the whole screen), and has terribly response latency — if you switch views or turn it on/off, it takes a while to comply. It may be handy for showing weather or stock information occasionally, but you will probably be more likely to walk to a nearby computer or change to an appropriate TV station rather than work with the clunky TV internet interface. The possibility of remote servicing and diagnosis sounds promising, however.

I can’t comment on the speakers as I use an external stereo.

The connections are well placed and, in particular, the HDMI and RCA ports on the right side of the TV are very useful for connecting temporary hardware, such as a friend’s game console.

This TV handles many more resolutions with the VGA connector than any previous HDTV I’ve had. I tested it at 1600×1200, but no higher. Works well.

I use this screen mainly as a computer monitor, connecting my computers DVI-out to one of the TV’s HDMI connectors using an HDMI cable and adapter. It looks beautiful and works very well for both business applications (even Photoshop, which has long been a poor program to run on other LCD screens due to color accuracy problems) and gaming. The response time is so fast as to not notice any blur or shearing, and the TV works perfectly at a full 1080P, 60 Hz.

This screen may be able to display at 120Hz, but it cannot accept input at 120Hz. 60Hz is the maximum, at least at 1080P. This leads one to wonder how it can play a Blu-Ray movie without shearing at 24P if it cannot accept input at an even multiple of 24.

One final noteworthy comment is that this screen does NOT have a glare problem at all. Many glossy screens, especially those on notebooks, reflect the surrounding light so well that you can shave in your reflection. Very distracting. This television has absolutely no glare problem whatsoever. Its glare is even lower than the previously popular matte (non-shiny) LCD panels.

I can only see noticeable light reflection at about a 60-90 degree viewing angle (though even at extreme angles, the picture still looks fine).

Overall I am very happy with this TV and find its faults to be incredibly minor. I’d recommend it over any other 2008 television set (though Samsung has very nice panels as well). However, if you want the highest-end and are willing to pay for it, look for something with LED backlighting.

Great TV few minor issues
This is an excellent TV, i am really happy with it. It actually weighs around 50 lbs, which is light compared to others i seen.

Cons: No digital audio coax output/input, however It has 1 optical audio in though.

AQOUS Net is a total joke, the web browser is really slow.

Pros: Light weight (about 50 lbs), 1080P HD, if your getting basic HD service for free, try skipping the cable box, the built in tuner might save you rental fees.

Smart stretch works great on 4:3. The design is great, however the remote can be better.

Overall it’s a really great set.

I have tweaked the settings after extensive research and testing. I compared videos and images on a calibrated set and mine and i got it to match almost 100%.

Excellent TV
Very good picture. The high-def image looks amazing. I’ve only had two small problems with it. First, I’ll sometimes hear a high-pitched noise when changed from a digital channel to an analog channel. This goes away if I switch back to digital, then to analog again. Second, I’ve had the picture not display when turning the TV on. To fix this, I turn the TV off, wait for a few minutes, then turn it back on.

Great picture, sound, hi-def from broadcast channels
I bought the LG-42LG30 about one month before Christmas last year, as the price dropped below $750. I use a Radio Shack antenna on the roof (80 inch VHF/UHF model) and the antenna signal goes through a splitter so I get FM radio signal for the receiver, a converter box for an old VCR, and the TV. After checking out the “antennaweb” site, I aimed my antenna as per the location of the broadcast towers, and I get ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and three public stations including the high-def ones. I also got some religious stuff that I promptly deleted from the channel list.

The TV gets great High-def broadcast signals so we watch all the prime time shows that we like, plus the classy public stuff like Masterpiece Theatre and Nova. I also bought a factory-refurbished Harman-Kardon 355 surround receiver that drives two Large Advent speakers at the front, and a pair of Smaller Advents as the surround channels. I have an Oppo upconverting DVD player that allows you to have hi-def compatible signals using ordinary DVDs, and the picture I get is every bit as sharp as the broadcast hi-def. I recently watched “Wall-E” and enjoyed it even more than I did at the theatre. The surround system balances up perfectly and is just amazing. No subwoofer needed.

But even with the receiver turned off, the LG TV speakers are clean, uncolored and smooth. They only lack the deepest bass but not a problem for 95% of the program content.

The Oppo DVD player is a great item, and it has excellent audio outputs including discreet channel outputs which work in the HK direct channel inputs. It plays every type of audio and DVD disc except Blu-ray. But I won’t be getting blu-ray anytime soon, as the Oppo gives a great picture that looks high-def to my eyes, especially since I am over ten feet from the screen. One more thing-When I am watching hi-def broadcasts, the TV’s digital audio out goes directly to the HK receiver via an optical cable, and the receiver automatically switches to “Dolby Digital” so you get pure surround audio with the picture. Can’t beat it. I am a cheapskate but I don’t like to compromise, so do yourself a favor, save some money and buy this TV!

Impressed
Very impressed. My roommate recently moved out and took his 50″ Samsung DLP with him. Fortunately, this TV was not only cheaper, but also MUCH higher quality than the Samsung. The entire Southern wall of our apartment is a sliding glass window, and this TV shows absolutely no glare. The viewing angle is amazing! The contrast is beautiful – I have never seen a TV that looks this sexy.

I would STRONGLY recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 42″. 720p looks 100% the same as 1080p for this size TV – you’d be paying more solely for bragging rights (but anyone who knows better will be laughing at you).

My only complaint about this is the speakers. For any AV input, the speakers are plenty loud and I set the volume to 15 out of 100. However, for cable the sound is greatly diminished and I have to turn the volume up to 60 or higher. You don’t want to be using a T extensively at near maximum volume because the speakers will eventually tear. I have some loud computer speakers, but unfortunately there is no Audio Out jack that size on this TV, just the red/white RCA cables jacks. No problem though, I’ll just have to throw down a few bucks for a conversion cable.

Overall 5+++ stars. I bought this TV from [...] with an amazon card I simultaneously opened. I got 6% back just from using the card, and $[...] off my first purchase, so the TV only cost me around [...]. Shipping was free, and [...] got the TV here in less than a week in perfect condition.

Great Quality LCD TV – Best In It’s Price Range
I purchased this model after extensive research and viewing comparible models at my local Buy More (or was it Best Buy?). This particular model was side by side with a 42″ plasma and I could not tell the differance. Initially I was leaning towards Plasma because of it’s reputation of less motion blur and better viewing angle, but I have to say that that reputation is outdated. I saw no motion blur in fast action sequences and the picture quality did not change until I was almost direct beside it.

What made me choose the LCD was the much lower power consumption of the LCDs (2 cents per killowatt hour vs. 9 cents for for the Plasma) and the brightness since it will used in a room with south-facing windows.

Whan I used it during a bright afternoon, it was even easier to view than the old 32″ CRT TV. The LCD screen seems more non-reflective than the old glass CRT screen.

Sound-wise it is excellent. I’m an old-school audiophile who enjoys good sound, and this sounds great with just a smidgen of bass increase in the settings. Since the sound is reflecting from the table-top and the wall behind it, the sound pacement can really matter. If for instance you wall-mount this model, the sound quality may be less pleasing and may require auxiliary speakers – that’s probably true for for ANY flat screen TV.

All in all I’m extremely pleased.

couldn’t be happier
the quality of this tv is amazing everyone i know that owns an HDTV says that this one is so much better, the difference between 60 & 120Hz is crazy, even watching a 700 mb 90 min AVI movie on this tv still looks awesome which i thought it would be horrible quality on such a big tv. Anyways you might find other TVs for cheaper with the same specs, but take it from someone who used to fix TVs for LG their customer service is so much better than any other company i have seen that on the rare instance something goes wrong they will take good care of you.

short term review
Picture definitely with more contrast and brighter than a regular LCD. I had to switch trumotion off because the feature made all movies look like a reality show.

Freaking awesome
This is the first HDTV I’ve ever purchased and I feel good about it. It’s a beautiful picture, right out of the box. It took me about 10 minutes to unpack, another 5 to connect, and another 5 to configure. Out of the box, I have zero complaints about the picture settings. So far, the only thing in the image I dislike is the halo around candles/bulbs in a really dark setting. Other than that, this is a fantastic t.v.! You can view the image from any angle and the tru-motion/local dimming features make for a significantly sharp/contrasted image. Once in a while, you get a guy that has been working on t.v.s his whole life and starts bashing every little non-perfect thing about a t.v., but if you work, eat food, and watch t.v., this LG is for you! Energy Star, 120Hz, LED backlit, VESA 200×200 mounting, anti-reflective screen, super easy menu system, amazing picture….. come on! Buy one now! – Josh – Fairborn, OH – 18 Jul 09

Impressive
I’ve owned this TV for a week now. I haven’t experimented with white scrolling text to look for the blooming and I almost don’t want to. After working with multimedia encoding and 3D graphics, I’ve discovered that ignorance is sometimes bliss. Once you notice something, you can’t stop yourself from seeing it all the time (like macro blocks from MPEG compression, motion “judder,”, etc.).

I’ll also agree with other reviewers that you really need to play with the advanced menus in order to tune the picture. “Vivid” and “standard” are nice for cartoons and anime but are too over-the-top for anything else. The auto-adjusting setting is a nice idea but in practice is annoying because it pops up a logo to tell you it is adjusting the picture. I was watching one night and every time I turned a table lamp on or off, the picture would adjust (which would be fine if it didn’t annoy me with an on-screen logo to tell me about it).

This TV is no Samsung (LED). I can definitely tell the difference in the local showroom and the Samsungs are very svelte. But for this price, I don’t think you can find anything comparable. The LED backlighting definitely increases the visible contrast; you’ll see blacks that you just won’t see on a non-LED LCD. I haven’t seen the blooming or LED “popping” that other reviewers have mentioned, but even if I turn off the dynamic lighting, the LED still gives me brighter lighting, less heat and (theoretically) longer life and greater reliability. Plus, I get bragging rights for a while. “Check it out; the very latest in big screen HD tech!”

Speaking of bragging rights, all of my friends have commented about how wonderful this TV display looks, even people who have bought Samsungs and Bravias in the past year. Considering that I bought this TV at a price that was the same as the non-LED Samsungs, I’m quite happy. All the technical negatives noted about this TV are probably spot on, but for the price, I don’t think I could have done nearly as well with any other TV. I bought this TV as sort of a memorial to my brother who died just this past Christmas. He was very into big screen TVs and the latest tech. I think he’d be happy to see his nephew watching Bakugan in HD glory.

Meets all expectations
I received this from amazon’s warehouse; whoever returned it clearly didn’t tweak (or know how to tweak) the picture sets for optimum performance. After playing around with all the pix options – and there are a lot of choices – I ended up with video that was incredible….an amazing improvement on my 3yr old sharp (which I had thought was really great.) The picture is sharp, the colors natural, the depth and the blacks superb. For folks who haven’t a clue how to set up the picture, there are plenty of sites like sound&vision or PC world or pc mag who list their particular preferences.

The gents who delivered were awesome….set it up and made sure it worked. Applause for amazon’s service here.

Have no comment on audio since I use my own sound system.

The picture quality is not at all clear and is fuzzy around the edges. The color is also difficult to figure out, it seems its either too red or too green. I would not recommend – this is a hdtv and we do not have the HDcable box hooked up yet – maybe that will help – but probably not :(

Junk!, is this tv.
The tv is noisy when you turn it on. The dvd player will not eject .My dvd is now stuck .Called rca to find out they do not come to my home to fix the tv I am suppose to take it to an authorized dealer. It is a week old so I am returning it.

Toshiba REGZA 46RV535U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
I am very happy with this product. It has a beautiful clean appearance and works flawlessly. Set-up was a breeze. Even had free help at delivery who checked to make sure set was in working order. Delivery was prompt and saved about $250. No tax. Free shipping. What’s not to like? Great set for the price.

This is an excellent television.
This is an impressive television. The picture quality is nothing short of amazing especially when viewing Blu-ray. There are plenty of inputs for all of my equipment. I am very happy with this purchase.

Toshiba REGZA 46RV535U 46 inch 1080 LCD HDTV
This was the easiest way to purchase a tv. Not only was there NO TAX and NO SHIPPING but the delivery guy brought it into the house, brought it upstairs, took it out of the huge box and set it up for me. The tv is beautiful and I love the swivel base. It did not however work with Time Warner Cable tv so I switched to AT&T UVerse and it works just fine. Toshiba said that the tv is not compatible with certain cable boxes. I love the features on the tv. Amazon has it going on!!!

great TV great price
i bought this Toshiba after Christmas and it is everything they said it would be… the colors are amazing and i have the HD package and the programs and sports are awesome. i got a great deal through Vann’s and would highly recommend them. Toshiba definitely hit a home run with this model. don’t hesitate to buy this model. i compared it to the Sony’s the vizio and samsung and sharp and the Sony was the only one that came close and that was a couple of hundred dollars more.

SONY like no other!
This TV is great I love this Sony Bravia, I just wish that the speakers were on the front instead of the bottom, but for this price…. its worth it

Not a bad TV….
I got this TV to do two jobs. First was to act as separate computer monitor and as a second TV. The SONY does both jobs very well.

Ed
Good reliable TV. I mounted this TV in my motorhome although the instructions from Sony state that the TV should not be installed in a moving vehicle. I mounted it to a wall mount and it works just fine. Good sound and picture. The only drawback is that I move my motorhome often and the TV autotune takes up to 50 minutes to do an Autosearch to reset available channels in the area.

My old set took only about 5 minutes. Otherwise we love the set and would recommend it.

disappointed
I purchased this television six months ago. I do not have cable and use an antenna. This tv has a sturdy frame and a very clear picture as well as first rate sound quality for a small screen television; however, on at least one of the major networks this television loses sound and sometimes picture roughly every twenty minutes. I have to move the antenna and/or turn the set off and back on to restore normal broadcast. I have moved this set to different locations and even watched it at a friend’s house to rule out the possibility of interference. Nothing has helped. I spoke to a repairman and he says that there’s probably a problem with the tuning mechanism and that I’m most likely stuck with a lemon. I bought a Sony thinking that I would get quality. I was wrong. Foolishly perhaps, I just purchased another Sony. This time a 22-inch Bravia L-series. So far, so good. No problems.

Color of TV
When purchasing this TV – no matter what the color of the television says in the description (ex. black, silver, or any other color) – that color will only be on the face of the TV, and the rest of it will be white. If you are aware of this, then you will not be shocked or disappointed when you unpack it. This is an example of a very poor description of a TV. The TV itself is fine.

Poor Sound
The picture on this unit is passable, but the sound is limited. It will change volume randomly and even at full volume it is hard to hear. The remote control works but it often requires several tries to get the command to take.

Great Value – Perfect Height for cramp quarters!
More TV-like style vs some of the other products that look like PC monitors. HDTV-compatible and great sound with “true” stereo sound. I was surprised with the viewing angle as many of the smaller lcd sets are limited.

Great HDTV for the price – receives over the air digital stations
This TV is very good for a place where you need a small TV. Other reviewers must have expected to get digital cable channels for free – this does include digital tuner capable of receiving over the air digital broadcasts from your local stations.

Nice picture and easy setup. A+++

Do not trust the durability
I do not have this particular model but have own TWO 14″ Sylvania LCD TVs and you need to be warned. After three years of use, both within a matter of three months (!), had their transformers go out. This means their power and the ability to stay on is gone. These TVs I believe are made for Sylvania by Funai and they are garbage. I paid $300 for each of these TVs and now neither works. That is horrible durability and value for the money. And repairing them is no easy or inexpensive task: at least $200 for each with no guarantee of future durability. Maybe we should just go back to the tried and proven tube technology. Stay away from these.

Good Value
A nice little TV for the Sewing Room. Particularly good audio for a small set.

Great Picture
Very good TV for the price. I am a recent retiree, and I watch the History Channel etc, but I also have a Playstation 3. The TV handles all of the challenges placed before it very well. My hat is off to Sharp for a job well done.

Great price for a flat panel
This is my first LCD Flat Panel TV. I upgraded from a 24″ CRT Flat Screen by Toshiba.

Pros:

1. Great Picture (It’s only 720p but the picture comes through great and is a big improvement over a regular TV)

2. Smart Stretch setting: this allows one to watch regular TV in widescreen and nothing looks distorted.

3. Inexpensive: I can’t afford an expensive flat panel HDTV so this was a great choice for me

Cons:

1. This set has awful sound. I hooked up a Bose CineMate system to it and that fixed this problem. No matter what you hook up to it, you will need to attach some speakers to make watching this TV bearable.

2. No option to turn off the internal speaker. This was an issue when setting up my external speakers. Turning the volume all the way down was a good workaround, though.

I’ve only had the set for about a day, so, there may be more pros & cons but, overall, this set is a huge improvement over my CRT set and did not make me go broke!

Good tv for the money
Great TV for the bedroom or office (i have it in corner of my office). Good 6ms refresh time is pretty fast. There are faster tv’s out there but not in this price range. Given that it is a 32 inch tv, picture seems very good even though it is only 720p. I don’t think you would build a home theater around this TV but is great TV for smaller spaces.

Dud
I only had this television for a week before I returned it.

Pros:

No dead pixels.

Standard-definition video looked good.

Cheap price for a 32″ HDTV that’s not from a low-end brand.

Cons:

Speakers have no bass, and squeal and vibrate in loud settings.

Changing channels up and down took too long, and the time to enter in numbers for a specific channel was too short.

1080i video sometimes wasn’t deinterlaced properly.

Occasionally when I turned it on, the TV shut itself off, then on, sometimes repeatedly. This was the main reason that I had to return it.

Beautiful TV as well as picture with sleek 1.8in design.
I searched high and low for a 40 to 42in TV and this was the best deal on the market. I was being told by salesmen (and reviews) that Samsungs had the best picture and I found them to look pretty good as well. But for the price range I was in ($1000) I was not finding the specs I wanted. (120Hz, 42in, 1080p, auto light adjust, swivel base) As a matter of fact, it was very hard to find a reputable TV maker with a 120Hz 42 in that price point. Then I stumbled across the 42LGX. I thought the TV was stunning looking with the scarlet red on the back, the chrome colored base and the clear, see-through power circle. It had all those specs and the picture was absolutely stunning! I looked at it side by side next to a comparable Samsung and the pictures were very similar. When comparing to the Samsung models in the same price, the picture was better. Samsung would only offer a 60Hz TV at that price point with a 40in screen. It just looked way smaller. The LG was a no brainer. The only thing that made the decision difficult was the 42LG70. It had the exact same specs, but it wasn’t 1.8in thick. It was on clearance as a display model for $850 and the LGX was brand new for $999. The Samsung closest in price and features was about $1300. I ended up buying at Fryes Electronics with a 5 year warranty and I’m very happy with the deal.

I use the TV with my computer (I disconnected my cable TV) to watch movies and TV shows over the internet and it works great. I use Windows Media Center and I have no problem getting full and wide screen shows in high def. I also use a video capture card that gives me all the features of a HD DVR. I get HD over the air and it looks way better than cable or satellite on this TV. The TV works very well as a second monitor with the DVI connection. You cannot tell if you’re watching TV piped from the computer or directly on the TV – it looks that good. Also, when people see it, they can’t believe I don’t have cable.

I would highly recommend this TV to anyone. Easy to set up – I didn’t even make any changes to the color settings at all. Right out the box, it looked great. And the menus and just so simple. It’s fairly light, connections are easy to make, it’s just a great looking TV. If you can find it on sale, buy it! You won’t be sorry.

42″ LGX TV
The best looking picture I have ever seen. TV adjusts to different light as you turn them on and off. Very clear and crisp picture. Sound is amazing don’t even need surround sound.

Excellent Product
My wife purchased this for me about a month ago, and I love it! The TV has all of the features that more expensive TV’s have but at an excellent price. I have friends that purchased more popular brands, and paid a lot more money. Trust me – you can’t tell the difference, it performs just as well. The images are crisp, clean, and colorful. I highly recommend this product!

Great value
After looking around at many brands I decided to get the Sylvania. I found it at Target on sale for $599 and snatched it up! The picture is perfect and has all the features I need to watch my movies and tv shows. The digital tuner also works very well where I live. I had another 42″ flatscreen before this one (it was stolen) and it works just as well, if not better. Very happy with my purchase!

Great LCD TV
Excellent value. This TV has extremely good colors and contrast. I am impressed on how black is the black. It’s very easy to adjust if u need, I am using the settings from default and I am very happy with it. Would buy another for sure. Don’t spend money on more expensive brands its a waste. This TV does it just right. My set includes HD Time Warner Cable, BD-P1600 Samsung Blue Ray capable of streaming straight from NEtflix. I was not able to set the Cable Remote to control the TV which for me is not a big deal but I guess I didnt try that hard. I got it set as well as a monitor for my laptop and the picture was just astonishing at 1080p.

The sound is not extremely powerful but is good enough as I have a home teather set. Definetily recommend this product.

A Dice Roll
A lot of potential problems with this model. We have had three various Sony products, and none have lasted longer than a year and a half. Our advice is to look elsewhere.

Great when it works. LOUSY Sony customer service!!!
Be very careful. I purchased both 46″ and 40″ XBR4. Great picture but chip sets in each TV have had to be replaced. First chip set was within one year warranty. Second chip set was one month out of warranty and Sony refused to honor warranty until multiple communications from dealer and from authorized repair facility at which point (after 15 phone calls and two months) they finally agreed to pay for $400 of a $600 repair. Problems revolved around HDMI connections (which we originally thought was a handshake issue) Great product when it works, but dreadful customer service, suggesting buyer beware or at very least consider extended warranty.

Buyer Beware
We purchased this television one year ago today. It has not worked for two months. We have spent endless hours with the Customer Service Dept on the phone. The parts (computer & panel) just went out on it for no reason. They do not have the parts to fix the television. They offered us a refurbished TV (someone elses problem TV) which we declined. If you take the refurbished TV, our warranty and extended warranty are null and void. We wanted ours fixed. Customer Service (India I suppose) lied numerous times regarding the delivery date of the parts. We went from “the Authorized Dealer will receive the part in 2 days” to “it is backordered until the end of February”. They offered us a brand new xbr6 television replacement for an additional $300.00. They said it would be here within two weeks. No sight of that. Sony Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with, a bunch of liars. If you get lucky and get a TV with no problems, then you are good. I advise against buying any Sony products. I know I won’t.

Can’t go wrong with XBR
this is one of the best 40″ 1080p out there. Can’t go wrong with this price. the noise is not big deal at all. you watch TV with a volume on… right! love this T.V. 32xbr for my bed room and this one for living room…

Awesome Product!
I did alot of research before I bought this television and it has the most amazing picture and color. I would recommend to anyone you won’t be disappointed!

Horrible Viewing Angles
I have had this tv for a few months now. Other reviews warned about this which I fooishly ignored. Indeed the picture is good but only directly in front of the screen. Any angle from left, right or above and the picture washed out. Viewing from below, the picture darkens considerably. Ours is in a cabinet a couple of feet above eye level. I have tilted it down to watch while in bed. In any other position the picture is a disaster. I should have returned it when I had the chance.

OK, but lack convenience features of other TVs
I purchased this TV from Target on sale. Really good price but I had to call around to find in stock. It was moving like hotcakes off the shelves when I was there.

For the price, this is a good deal. Picture quality and sound is a step below my 32inch Sony, but certainly good for the price. However, and this is a big however, it lacks some convenience features which I really like, and thus will have to return this TV.

Specifically, the WIDE mode button has been removed from the remote control, despite what it says in the manual. I had a very nice talk with tech support, who were great, but said that the manual referred to the older model. So, this means that if you flip from one channel to another, you need to navigate through the menus to change the widescreen mode. OK, not a deal breaker, but very annoying. I use this feature all the time on my Sony.

What is a deal breaker is the lack of choices for wide screen modes. There are only 3 (normal, panoramic, and wide). These do not cover the various options you might need. Specifically, it lacks what Sony calls “ZOOM”. “ZOOM” would allow you to zoom in while retaining the aspect ratio. This is important if you are watching non HD sources where the 4×3 picture is letter-boxed. You cannot zoom in to fill the whole screen. For me, this is a big problem.

I’ve given four stars deducting 1 for these problems. If these are not concerns for you, this is a great TV at a great price. If they are, do not buy this TV.

Very nice for the price!
Having seen the VIZIO brand at out local Target store, I initially shunned it thinking that a higher-end and better-known brand such as Samsung, Sony or Toshiba was probably better. Recently I noticed an article in Consumer Reports that top-rated a VIZIO LCD TV so I took another look and I’m glad I did.

I bought a smaller — 26-inch — VIZIO just to watch TV which for us generally means breaking news and political coverage. For TV series and movies, we have a larger Sharp AQUOS LED LCD TV with an LG BD390 Network Blu-ray Disc Player and a 650-watt five speaker sound system; this system can’t be beat at any affordable price. The VIZIO simply can’t compete with the Sharp setup but, of course, it only cost a fraction of what we spent for our “serious” rig.

Setup was simple though, inexplicably, no assembly instructions for the TV itself were included; I assume there was a sheet of instructions which did not make it into the box. Assembly instructions are not included in the VIZIO manual or the Quickstart Guide but it was pretty easy to figure out how to attach the stand and supporting collar to the LCD TV itself.

There are plenty of input connection choices; our Apple TV unit feeds HMDI 1 and looks great on-screen.

The screen image is very good — not up to the Sharp LED TV, naturally — and the sound output is average for built-in speakers.

We got a great “Cyber Monday” price on the VA26L at Target but had to go to two stores before we could find one in stock; this popular model was sold out online.

We are happy with our VA26L and would recommend it to others looking for good performance, quality and value at a reasonable price.

Pretty damn good!
The best thing you can say about your experience with product is this: We bought this TV from Target on Friday as a gift and by Saturday we were looking for one for ourselves. I brought it to my girlfriend’s mother and set it up for her to replace her old TV. Everything plugged in and turned on in the most self-explanatory fashion possible. After hitting the remote once or twice the TV had scanned and programmed everything else… and after seeing how good it looked and the amazing deal we got for it, we immediately decided we were getting one for ourselves.

When I went to buy the 2nd one I saw the same guy working who helped me with the 1st TV. He noticed I had bought one and then had come back to buy another one – he said a fellow bought one yesterday too and came back earlier today and bought 3. For 279.99 you can’t beat this. Should it not be on sale and return to the sea of comparable prices for TV’s this size, it’s still a strong front runner! I would NOT spend an extra $100 because a TV says SONY when I know how nice this one looks.

don’t buy it – mine broke in the first 2 minutes
i kid you not – we got a GREAT price – 248.00 at walmart and got it home and put it up on wall. turned it on to scan channels and once that finished, we were able to see 2 channels before the whole thing died.

we messed with it for a while, called vizio help line – who incidently, were pleasant and helpful. after discussing what happened – picture went from full screen and shrank in from the edges to a small dot of nothing – they told us the backlight had burned out and it was SHOT. had to take it back within an hour of purchase.

we turned around and bought a sanyo.

Great TV
This TV has a great pic. I did my home work first. Decided to choose this one. I would recommend this TV to anyone.Very sharp pic. Worth the money .

Amazon had the best price.

Watch out for the TV Base on this one…very weak
I am very satisfied with the TV in general, but the base stand is extremely poorly designed. It is very bad, and very weak to support the weight of the TV. My base gave in almost immediately after I bought it, and I don’t want to put it in a mount wall. For the money I paid, this is too much hassle. I had to redesigned the TV base myself. I just can’t believe how poorly designed the base is. It’s like a luxurious Mercedez Benz using wooden wheels. It does not make sense. I wouldn’t buy it unless they redesign the base to something more solid and durable. Other than that, the TV is great and easy to use.

Samsung LN22A650 22in 720p LCD TV
This is my first LCD TV (that I kept). I read a lot of reviews on several web sites before I bought it. I’ve had it for four months now.

I am very pleased with the picture and sound quality. I am not an audiophile, so theater-quality sound is not important to me. It’s not bad sound, just not high end. I live in a travel trailer, so I can sit at the right distance from the TV for comfort and best viewing quality. It was a bit difficult to get used to the rectangle viewing area instead of the old square type at first, but now I hardly notice it. I don’t use the HD feature. I find the picture is plenty sharp enough without it.

I also like the Energy Star rating. I often run my electronics from an inverter from batteries powered by solar panels. The Samsung draws VERY little juice compared to my old Magnavox analog TV.

The “touch of color” bezel is interesting, but wasn’t a selling point for me. It has a well-designed base pedestal, unlike an el-cheapo I bought from WalMart that kept wanting to fall over. I took THAT one right back.

One thing I learned from the cheapo TV is that even though the packaging SAYS the TV is compatible with major satellite TV remotes, this is not always true. The cheapo would NOT work with my DirecTV remote no matter what I tried. Wish I could remember the brand of that first one, because their customer service was lousy, too.

I would recommend this TV.

Bad customer service and repair!!
I purchased this tv in 2008, nice tv, I like it. After 6 months I had a problem with it. I called Samsung and told them that I wanted a new tv. Samsung said that “that is not their policy” and told me to send it back for repair. I told them that the tv was going to get banged up in shipping and at the repair factory. I get the tv back and it is scratched. I hook up the tv and it starts doing the same thing that I sent it it for. I call Samsung again and they tell me that they will send me out a new one. Why didn’t they just do that from the beginning? I now have to wait until I get an e-label for shipping and send it back again, when they get it they will send me a new one. What a major pain!!

good tv, confusing advertising
Samsung LN22A650 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color

I researched this tv on samsung’s website and others and couldn’t figure out if it was actually a 3000:1 ratio or 5000:1 ratio. it was advertised as both, depending on where you looked. i took a chance and paid the extra hundred or so dollars, only to find out it was 3000:1. so why did i pay more money? otherwise, the tv’s picture is super sharp and i have no complaints about that. the sound is horrible…you have to max it out just to get a medium volume, but my previous tv was the same way. set up was easy and the touch of color is nice, but not worth an extra hundred. overall, it’s a great little 22″ tv…probably better than most.
