Great TV
I am very happy with the Phillips 32″ HDTV. Bought mine at Wal-Mart and the most important factor to me was picture quality. The Phillips picture was sharper than the Samsung, Sony, or Vizio 720p HDTV’s. People have complained about the sound and I don’t think it is all that bad. Setup and controls are very easy to use. I think it’s a great HDTV for the price (I paid $469.00)!

Absolutely the best HDTV for the price
I did a tremendous amount of research before I bought this HD, including scouring amazon customer feedback, CNet, and Consumer Reports, and so far, after three weeks, the Philips has lived up to the great reviews. The picture is terrific, it’s easily customizable without being a brain-teaser and set-up was a breeze. It also glossy and sleek, while the screen is thankfully glare-free. I do really, really, really wish it came in white, though. Overall, you can’t find a better HDTV for the price.

Unlike other reviewers, I find the sound fine despite the speakers being in the back but then, I’ve kept mine on the stand about 18 inches from the wall and not tucked in a media cabinet. I agree that the remote should have some sort of backlighting b/c until you memorize the buttons you’ll need a flashlight to adjust format, sound, etc…

A couple of general buying tips: despite what manufacturers and reviewers may tell you, 32″ is a perfectly sized TV for the living room. My general viewing range is about 10-12 feet and I wouldn’t want a TV any larger. Also, don’t waste your money on 1040p for TV’s less than 40″–the higher resolution doesn’t register at the smaller sizes. Reputable reviewers say that 720p ( like the Philips) is exactly as good for 32″ and I agree.

Oh and one other thing: To take advantage of HD I hiked over to my local cable provider’s payment center and replaced my two year old digital cable box with an HD digital box. It’s free and totally worth the trouble. You’ll get better HD features, channels, and flexibility of resolution.

Digital is overrated.
This TV looks very nice but has terrible sound quality. We have tried to change the settings without success. It can be incredibly loud, yet we have difficulty hearing words. This is frustrating. We do not receive cable at our house but have a roof antenna that is very effective. We have noticed however that the image becomes pixelated and will freeze occasionally in severe weather.

Very good TV for the money
I purchased this tv from a club for $488 after reading reviews on Amazon.com and Consumer reports. I set the TV up in my bedroom, and it actually may be a little large for that room as the picture looks better if you are at least 6 feet away.

I have only regular cable in this room, no HD box. Some of our local channels are full-time HD now, and those channels have a much better picture. I hooked up our HD cable box just to see if there was a difference in picture and it was GREATLY improved over just straight cable connection. Still, the picture is clear and the sound, while coming from the back, is very clear…just be sure to keep away from the wall at least 6 inches so you have the bounce of sound.

I am very happy with this TV and would NOT be happier if I had spent $200 more on a Sony or Samsung. This TV won’t “blow you away”, but if you want a great picture with no “frills” in a small room, this is the one to buy.

Exellent TV for the bedroom.
This is a great TV, I ordered from Dell at about $600. I love the style of the glass interface and the ability to connect multiple devices to it. It comes with 4 HDMI inputs to plug the receiver, PS3, Blueray player and Cablebox. The picture quality is amazing even thgouh it is not 1080P, yet it can do 1080i with the appropriate equipment. Very nice TV for the price.

Awesome TV
TV is spectacular. It is thin ultra thin and looks like a picture frame hung up on the wall. The colors are so vibrant and clear. It almost seems as if the people are standing next to you. It has so many extra features like internet. It includes a small tiny remote that can control other samsung tvs in your home as well as this one. Beautiful look with the clear frame around it.

Great (may be better though)
I would rate this higher, but I haven’t gotten my HD box for cable yet. Picture is already fabulous, and my video games look amazing just through component video. DVD’s look near HD most of the time using my upconvert player. The auto-motion takes a little getting used to and some animation is jittery when receiving an SD signal. I recommend this regardless.

a good buy…some bugs though.
I bought the 8000 series LED after much research and have been very happy with it. I just wanted to add that while it is an awesome tv it still has some bugs that should be tweeked in the next generation of Samsung. First, I noticed a “dim” or dark area in the center, at both top and bottom of the screen. It is hardly noticable during most viewing but it is there nonetheless. Second, the volume doesn’t seem consitant. During some movies I will have to frequently adjust the volume up and down. Third and last, the audio doesn’t want to play in sync with any stereo/home theatre setup I attach to it. There is a split second echo effect that makes the audio irritating to listen to. Best to do without it for now. As for picture quality, it is fantastic…especially with Blu-ray. movies like Underworld and Hellboy II are the ones I like to show off for guests. For you gamers, I have an Xbox 360 hooked to it and am very pleased with the quality. I even took advantage of the PC hookup and played World of Warcraft on it and was happy with how that looked. I think once I get the audio problems worked out I will be content. I recommend this to anyone…well, anyone who can afford it.

Samsung UN46B8000 Great TV
This is great TV.I am completely satisfied with the pic quality, features and ultra slim design. If it has Netflix and Amazon videos stream would be nice. I hope next software upgrade include these two features.

Please Read For Vertical Line Problem
I apologize that this is not going to be an in-depth review on this television. In fact, I really do like this TV. I bought it because it has a narrow profile (meaning the frame or bezel of the TV is thin and unencumbered by large speakers, etc.) It really is a beautiful set. The picture is bright , with high contrast, and the sound is quite passable given the fact that the speakers are nearly hidden from view. All in all, I would highly recommend this set, were it not for one BIG problem. After about 16 months, I, like many others, started to get a thin vertical line down the left side of my screen (about 4-6″ in from the left side). I started researching this about 6 months ago and, like many others, thought I was pretty much out of warranty and out of luck. Then, on a fluke, I checked Toshiba’s website today, and they had posted a bulletin on the problem and extended the warranty. I called them today and they say they will take care of it. We’ll see. Anyway, I thought I would post this review and a link to the site in hopes that other consumers like me can take advantage of a manufacturer actually acknowledging that they have a problem. Here is the link:

[...]

Good luck!

UPDATE:

Well, Amazon removed the link. But go to Toshiba’s site and go to the Updates/Notices link.

DO NOT BUY THIS TV
Exactly 13 months after I bought this tv the Display panel went out. It is going to cost me over $700 to fix. Luckily I had an extended warranty with my Capital One card. BUYER BEWARE!

UPDATE: Was told a new display panel will run 1722.64! That does not include s/h or labor to put it in. Over 2 grand to fix a $1300 tv. What a joke! Too bad there is not a lemon law law cars.

Toshiba sells bad panels
My experience is essentially the same as the others who have reviewed this model in 2009. After the set was just days over a year old the screen began to have multi-colored vertical lines appear along the right, then left edges. So far the lines do disappear after the set has had 10-15 minutes to warm up. But, come on, for $1400 the thing should work for more than a year. I fully expect this defective television could become unwatchable at any time. When that happens my replacement will NOT be a Toshiba LCD.

Product failed within 17 months; $1,500 down the drain
Within 17 months of purchase, my Toshiba Regza (a $1,500 television set) is unusable. About 1/3 of the screen is covered with multicolored vertical lines. The authorized repair center wants $2,000 in total to fix the TV set (it requires an $1,800 part). Toshiba customer service tells me I am out of luck because the product is out of warranty. They were not particularly nice, helpful, understanding, or at all interested in learning more about what is an obvious design defect in an allegedly high-end product. It is obviously within Toshiba’s discretion to service out of warranty products which have such profound failures within such a short period of time. I will never buy another Toshiba product and will share my negative experience with as broad an audience as is possible.

Toshiba Service Stinks
We were very pleased with this television until a couple of months ago, when it began having vertical lines across the left, and then right, sides of the screens. I sent Toshiba an e-mail about it in March, when the TV was about 2.5 months out of warranty. We tried some troubleshooting and when that didn’t help, they said to take it to get an estimate. The technician said the entire LCD screen had gone bad and would need to be replaced, at a cost of $3,078! (I paid $1983 for it.)

Toshiba told me to send them a letter requesting assistance. A few days later they told me, sorry, it’s out of warranty, and they wouldn’t do anything about it. I explained that since the ENTIRE LCD SCREEN had gone bad after just 14 months, it was clearly defective. And it’s not like I was having to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a part – the entire TV was scrap. Nothing I said would change their mind.

I understand that it’s out of warranty. What I don’t understand is them acknowledging that there was something wrong with the LCD screen, that it should have lasted MUCH longer, etc., but not being willing to stand behind their products, do the right thing, and at least provide a partial refund or SOMETHING.

That was my third Toshiba television purchase, but it will be my last. They have lost a customer for life, and I hope if you’re reading this, you will pay attention to this – they WILL NOT stand behind their products and do the right thing.

Can’t beat the features for the price
We wanted a good-quality TV for a low price and that’s exactly what we got. The LG has a good number of features that are relatively easy to access through on-screen menus. The full manual on CD is adequate; the on-screen easy access manual is rather slim pickings.

The picture quality is about what one would expect for the price but if you want better, it comes with a hefty price tag. There’s a variety of input/output options, although I wouldn’t have minded a 3.5mm headphone jack.

All-in-all, it’s a nice TV that gets the job done.

Great TV for price — Some initial issues, but fixed quickly by LG
I ordered this TV on the Black Friday deal. I was hesitant to buy a TV online, but the great deal and lack of tax made me take a chance. Unfortunately, my fears proved true. When the TV arrived, the sound would not work out of the HDMI. If I had bought it at a local store, I would have taken it back. However, since I couldn’t just do that, I spent a while trying different HDMI devices, different cables, etc. from all over the house, only to conclude that I had a TV with a defective HDMI. If it didn’t work, why did I still give it 4 stars? I debated on 3, but settled on 4, because (1) when the problem arose, LG was great to deal with and the end result with a great, relatively inexpensive TV was worth a few incoveniences and (2) I don’t think the fact that I was unlucky enough to get the one bad TV is worth ruining the overall rating of an entire product so long as the problem is taken care of hassle free, as it was for me. My LG experience: I called customer service late Friday night, and they set up a tech for first thing Tuesday morning. (I should note that I am in a major city, so that may have helped me out on time.) He came out, confirmed the problem, re-set me up to use component while he ordered a new board (which, by the way, still had a great picture using component). He was then back two days later with the new board and got the HDMI working again. Since all the other reviews address the great picture issues, etc. (with which I wholeheartedly agree), I just wanted to compliment LG on their service as well. I know some of you will think that since someone received a broken set, there must be quality issues with this product. While it is possible, none of the other reviewers seem to have had the same problem and, unfortunately, whenever you buy electronics, there is a risk that you will be the unlucky one who gets the one that has the glitch and stuck with the incoveniences. There is no way to know if the problem started at LG, at an Amazon warehouse, during delivery, etc… However, a company with good customer and warranty service makes up for the risk, especially when the end result is a fully functioning TV with a fantastic picture and sound for a very reasonable price. Definitely still recommended despite my initial problems.

this is great
The TV arrived in great shape and is all that i expected. Nice picture, great sound and is just fantastic.

Excellent after some tweaks
Pretty much everything has already been mentioned by other reviews, so I will mention something new/updates.

1)The HDMI audio sync issue was a big concern when I decided to buy this TV, but LG seems to have fixed this with a new firmware. I am using a comcast HD DVR box and a DVD player through HDMI, and audio/video syncs properly.

2) Picture quality is BAD without adjusting the picture settings. The colors (look washed out) and the rendering will really disappoint you, but dont judge this tv until you tweak the settings. Google “xxlh40 setting” and try out a few variations. I either use the cnet settings for LG xxlh30 or a hometheatremag setting for this tv. Picture looks AMAZING with these changes. (fyi: dont associate brightness with good picture quality!)

3) I found it annoying that I have to change PQ settings for EACH input, but its not a big deal once you have done all your tweaking.

4) Trumotion 120hz. I only use this at “Low” for sports. Never use this setting for movies…it just looks weird.

5) There is no headphone out. I use a AV-to-3.5mm converter, which was $2-3.

6) Some people are complaining about the sound quality. I am guessing that they are comparing it to their home theater setup. This tv has excellent speakers! I use my HT setup only for movies now.

7) I think this tv is better than my friend’s samsung ln650 in every area except “blackness.” Blacks looks much better on samsungs, but I paid half of what he paid!

Hope this helps.

Love It
This is my first flat screen TV. I have been looking for over a year for a good deal with all the bells and whistles I wanted. I had heard good things about the LG so when this TV came up on Amazon for a great price I ordered it. I am more than pleased with it. The picture is fantastic and the sound is great. It is very customer friendly. I have never ordered anything this expensive from Amazon but they were great, it even came 3 days sooner than they said. I would recommend this TV to anyone.

Amazing
Sony TV’s have always had great picture quality and this set is no exception. Right out of the box its practically perfect – not much adjustment needed. I used Avia and it was almost spot on already. The “brown” color is hardly noticeable and allowed for a substantial savings.

I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a 32 inch TV. There is nothing better than Sony in an LCD flat panel display. All the connections you could ever want.

Like I said….AMAZING

Sony Bravia
While not the top of the line, this LCD has gorgeous definition and picture quality. Completely satisfied with the product.

Brown? More like Dark Grey
First of all, I bought this from J&R Music’s shop on Amazon. It was on sale for about $150 cheaper than the black, red or white versions. I guess the idea of “brown” scared people away, and they had to dump inventory.

Anyway, the unit is to be placed in a fruitwood entertsainment center, so “brown” wouldn’t be noticable. The unit arrives in less than 5 days, and I thought they sent a black unit. My wife and daughter could not see the “brown” as I described it. It is more of a contrasting dark grey over the speakers and on a part of the stand that you will never see. The color is lost if seen over 3 ft away. Take the savings, buy it!

Color and sound are excelent. Picture is equal to the Samsung ln32a450 it replaced. Sound is noticably better. HD is where it shines, SD is acceptable when viewing 10 feet away. I am using the QAM clear on HD cable and very happy with my “free” HD. I will set up through HD FIOS TV next week, but expect same great results.

Save your money, go 720p on this 32″, buy it in brown, use the savings to upgrade to HD Cable, Sat or FIOS. SD is dead.

Nice TV set
It’s very attractive TV. I love it. There is 2 things, I’m not comfortable with. First, Amazon listed and sells this TV set as “white”. It’s only small white trim on a bottom & on the top. It should say “WHITE TRIM”, instead of white TV. The other things is that, the sound of any program always delayed. It’s like the program starts with big sign of BRAVIA, across the TV set, you hear the sound, than all of the sudden, it’s black screen and no sound for few seconds, till the program starts.

Great Television with a few caveats 4.5
This television has an amazing picture on the HD channels. I’m not sure it can get much better than this, if at all. It will blow you away. The sound is good and clear and the remote and setup is simple. I did have to go through the auto setup a couple of times before it got all my channels – I get cable and satellite so that may have had something to do with it. That may also have to do with the picture being pretty grainy on some of the cable channels that are not HD. All the satellite channels look good so that is why I think it may be because of both signals coming in together. One thing I want you to know is that it really did not look the same as it comes across in the photograph with this listing. I bought this in the brown and I thought it was going to have a similar appearance and casing color as the touch of color televisions do, but it is nothing like that. The color is more on the metal below the casing than on the casing around the tv. It in no way enhances the picture and you really hardly notice it at all in the brown. The color on this one was a little disappointing because it is not a brown that you really see in contrast to the black. However, I got it for a great price. It was shipped and packaged well and quickly. And the picture quality is really amazing.

Be aware if purchasing for use in U.S.A.
Be aware of purchasing this item for use in the U.S.A. – our TV broke after 3 months and we cannot get it fixed because it is a multi-system (and non-US standard) TV. Sony just gives us phone numbers for Asian parts suppliers and says that is all they are able to do and the Amazon reseller, VCT, has been no help so far. I’m not even sure at this point if Sony will honor any kind of warranty because we bought a foreign system within the U.S. – something I honestly did not even consider when buying this multi-system TV. It is looking like we are out a brand-new TV and a ton of money. Until the TV broke it was great – we loved being able to watch our Region 2 DVDs on it. Picture quality was good and everything worked just fine, but then in the middle of watching something there was a loud popping noise and the TV went blank and so began our many, many e-mails and phone calls with Sony and VCT. Just be aware of this issue when considering a multi-system TV in the U.S.

CustomerReviews

Great value and nearly a year of great viewing so far
I bought one of these TVs – this model, I’ve double checked before posting this review – at Costco early this year. Although I’ve always preferred the picture quality of Sony TVs, my budget just wasn’t going to accommodate a Sony, and I really wanted to get a nice sized LCD HDTV with a digital tuner without waiting much longer. This model of VIzio was within my price range, and I’ve not had a moment’s regret about the purchase.

When I brought this TV home and set it up, I didn’t yet have HD cable service, but I hooked it right up to the external TV antenna system in our condo building, and the digital over the air pictures were – and still are – marvels of high def technology. A few days later I swapped out the SD digital cable box for HD cable and am now spoiled rotten by HD television channels.

This TV has been on more hours a day than I should admit, for eleven months, and its performance has been flawless. I’ve been so pleased with it, that when I was shopping for another HDTV last week I didn’t even bother to look at another brand than Vizio.

OMG!!!!
Well to tell you the truth I have never been Electronically savvy.I opened the box, attached the stand and connected the power cord and the supplied HDMI cable and WOW!!!The picture is perfect and the sound is very good for such a low priced 1080p 37″ HDTV.I paid $480.00 with shipping and I can tell you it was a steal.I watch it constantly and I am highly pleased.Vizio makes a very good product as an alternative to the higher priced Sony or Samsung.

Bang for the Buck
The Vizio MODEL – VO37LF MSRP is: $729.99, Amazon price is $649.99 and you can get this exact 37″ FDHTV at [...] for $579.99 and [...] throws in a HDMI Cable (worth about $32 to $50) and an extended 2 year warranty period.

I compared this Vizio to the Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Sharp. The comparison clearly showed that you get more bang for the buck with the Vizio. I also felt that the picture was better than 3 of the 4 models considered, and equal to the best.

Set up did not require a Ph.D. in Quantum Physics. I unpacked the unit by myself, set up the unit by myself and made all the connections by myself. I was considering hiring somebody to do this for me because of the horror stories I have heard. However I had no problem connecting the cable box, Nintendo Wii, VCR/DVD Recorder Combo, as well as running the sound through my Kenwood THX / Bose Surround Sound system. Total set up time was approximately 30 minutes.

Picture quality is best described by my wife. We were watching “Deadliest Catch” and she was getting a little pale. I asked if she was ok and she said that the picture was so realistic that she was actually getting sea sick!

The remote was manufactured in China however the FHDTV was manufactured in Mexico.

Summary: No better bang for the buck!

Super Bargain!
I bought this TV from another online retailer but I decided to write a review for it here. I’ll keep it simple. I love this TV. The picture is great with my Xbox360, Blu-Ray, and cable. Vizio has made a fan out of me. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck, look no further than Vizio.

AMAZON IS A RIP OFF!!!!!!
Look Amazon is good for some things but please dont buy a T.V. from them. You can get the same LCD for way less at Wal-Mart. Im looking at the website right now and the price everyday is $568.00 and you can get an additional 2-year warrenty for under $100 bucks. I love amazon for my cell phone accessories but they are a bunch of crooks with these T.V. prices!!!!!!

Auria 16″ LCD HDTV
The picture is only viewable when viewed straight on. It might make an okay monitor but I purchased for the kitchen to be used as a TV and it was not a good pick for that use. The sound quality is very poor as well. I will be shopping for a replacement and this time will make sure I can actually see and hear it before I buy.

Love It
I have had this for a while now & have had NO PROBLEMS whatsoever, even with the built-in DVD player. Can’t go back, my next TV will be a REGZA 1080p. When I have a room for a TV, it’ll be there! HIGHLY recommend!

Gave good service but picture gave out after 2 years
This TV gave good service for two years during which we had no problem with it. But, after 2 years, the backlight for the LCD gave out. Now, when the TV is turned on, the picture appears very briefly and then fades to black. One can still hear the sound, however. For a $750 TV, I expected a lot more than 2 years of service.

Another unfortunate customer
Bought the Toshiba Regza 32″ HDTV in January of ‘08 and it worked just fine until yesterday when it suddenly lost its picture. Audio works fine and I can change channels, but no picture, just a blank screen. After reading the reviews here I guess I have joined the ranks of the poor souls who paid alot of money for a TV only to have it last less than 2 years. I liked this TV until yesterday. Toshiba can kiss my you know what……I’ll never buy one of their products again. Unfortunately I have another Toshiba flat screen in the bedroom…..guess I’ll wait and see how long it lasts. I’m buying a new TV tonight and I’ll see what can be done with the Toshiba…..maybe I’ll take it back to the store and leave it in front of their door. They can use it for a door stop. Buyers…..I would consider what we are saying here…..think about it.

You have to be kidding me
Bought this TV for a good price but had issues with the slow powerup and slight bluriness. HOWEVER, after owning it for 20 monts (1yr 8 mos) the picture (video) went dark. Googled the problem for this model number and got crazy number of reviews that all had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Called Toshiba and took the unit to one of their authorized servicers. They called back and said the “panel” has to be replaced (that’s the WHOLE TV). The quote was $1,600.00 for the repair – WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOSHIBA regardless of the quality of the picture or the features. Of course this problem occurs ONLY AFTER WARRANTY has expired

Feature are absolutely useless if the TV is dead!!!

Check out the internet reviews BEFORE YOU BUY THIS

Failed just after warranty expired;customer service was rude and condescending
I had this television for just over a year when the picture failed. The sound was fine, the channels changed, but there was no picture. (After some research, I discovered that many people have had the same problem with Toshibas.) The warranty period had just elapsed so I contacted Toshiba customer service to see what could be done. Not only were they rude and insulting but they indicated that failure of the television happened and said that that was just something that should be accepted with Toshibas. They suggested that I should have gotten an extended warranty.

Repair of the television is approximately $600. The television cost just over $800 new. Due to this experience, I can confidently say I will not be purchasing a new Toshiba again. Samsung and Sony definitely make a better, more reliable product, plus their customer service is much more professional, helpful, and courteous.

Exceptional TV and Service
I purchased this set in June 20009. It’s worked great ever since. I used the DVE calibration DVD to properly adjust the settings and the picture is superb. Great blacks for LCD, nice and bright, of course, colors are brilliant. The user controls are more extensive than on many sets I’ve seen with control over Gamma and all color levels. I prefer to watch with image enhancements turned off including 120Hz option. The picture is even better with a Blu-Ray player hooked-up via HDMI. Connectivity is wonderful with plenty of video connections, optical audio, PC RGB connector, and two or three USB ports. It also allows for an ethernet hook-up to local network and an optional dongle for wireless connectivity. I connected my 17″ Apple laptop and the picture was great with many options for resolution settings. I must include a fantastic rating for Crutchfield. They are by far the best dealer I’ve ever had the good fortune to purchase from. And their technical support is first rate. Their prices can seem high but with no taxes and free shipping their price was actually lower than any of the other reputable outlets. Three days after receiving my set I noticed that Crutchfield was offering a free Blu-Ray player with the purchase of this tv at the same price I paid. I called them about it and received a free player in a few days. It doesn’t get any better than that. The only negative comment I have about the tv is the sound. However, for such a thin set I really can’t imagine built-in speakers could sound any better.

Samsung ln46a860
Samsung 46a860

I researched and waited for over 6 months before finally deciding to acquire the Samsung 46 inch 860. We are extremely pleased with the decision. Great picture and it was easy to install. Preferred this LCD because it is easy to manuever and although the size is almost too big for the bedroom, it is enjoyable to be the last thing you see before closing your eyes for the night. Highly recommend Crutchfield in their response and delivery….Thanks

AMAZED AND ASTOUNDED
I purchased this item last week. I researched my heart out and settled on this after reading tons of reviews. However, the reviews DO NOT do it justice. The picture is so clear and sharp that you can even see individual hair and beads of sweat. The sound is great as well. I also love the fact that you get 2 remote controls (one with all the bells and whistles to do everything but guide a missle, and another small simple one that is good for just turning the tv on/off,changing channels and volume). It is also extremely stylish and an unbelievable 1.9 ” deep.

Even though I got it for a great price, it is more than worth the original retail price.

Consumer Reports “Best” march 2009
You might be able to find the March 2009 issue of Consumer Reports at your local library reference area. They scored tvs based on size category of 52″, 46″, and 30″. In the 46″ LCD category the 850 model was scored as BEST out of all tested 46″ LCD televisions!!!

The 850 model is basically the same as this 860 model. It is just the touch of color frame that is different. I bought this model because the blue is much better looking than the red.

The picture quality is A+++ EXCELLENT. Even when I was using regular cheap $10 rabbit ear antenna to pick up channels 2 to 13, the picture looked super sharp and super realistic.

I have an Xbox 360 elite, and a Panasonic BD60 blu-ray player. Both devices work perfectly with this tv, and blu-ray movies look incredibly amazing!!!

You will definitely want to get a blu-ray player with this television. You may be tempted to purchase the Samsung 3600 player, but I should warn you that it cost a lot more than the above mentioned Panasonic player. I personally recommend the Panasonic because I have not had any technical issues with it, and the picture looks just as great as more expensive models.

Also, as of May 2009 most stores started to stock the “B” models instead of the “A” models. The B models are NEWER and they have a full black color frame. So you may want to consider one of those B models instead of this A860. But if you do decide to purchase this A860, you will definitely be happy with it. I love the one that I have.

Recently purchased 20090605
While searching for a tv via various sites over a period of about 7 months I noticed a recurring theme- I became overly concerned with the negative feedback and starting ignoring good deals on great tvs. I then noticed that a lot of the negative feedback was either delivery related, service related or otherwise rare occurrence related. I then came to the realization that there will always be a chance that a product that you buy will be defective- that’s life.

I had been tracking this tv for about 6 months and saw the price vary (on Amazon) from $1800 to about $2000. Ever since the new Samsung LED tvs arrived on the scene, the old top of the line HD LCD tvs have lowered in price. Perfect timing. I went through Crutchfield which has listed the price at $1,499.99- the lowest I have personally seen…ever.

So I finally pulled the trigger. FREE delivery, no sales tax, delievered within a week, perfect condition. 100% happy. Just a quick note, when I was doing my research I thought that some of the posts were from salesmen or written by a member of Samsung- please let me assure you that I’m just your average Joe who just purchased an amazing tv.

The good:

1. Excellent picture quality

2. Blue TOC matches my decor much better than the gaudy red TOC.

3. Easy setup.

4. The 120 Hz matched with the 4 ms refresh rate makes every channel so realistic it’s scary. You can really notice the difference- makes every HD channel look like a blu ray disc.

5. Easy calibration- it is automated so you don’t have to do anything. Best buy charges about $200 for calibration- ridiculous.

6. Extremely thin- amazing. I chose to mount this tv to a stand so the small depth allows me to push my stand very close to the wall to provide a “wall mounted effect” without the inconvenience of hiring an electrician to wire it up.

The “Bad”:

1. The sound- please read further…I put “bad” in quotes here because the less than desirable portions of a tv of this caliber cannot really be considered “bad”. For example, many posts suggest that the sound is “bad”. Honestly, this tv is ultrathin so what kind of speakers will fit into a tv that thin? Garner expectations intelligently. Buy a Samsung soundbar. They are ultrathin and will give you ten times more bang for your buck than trying to rely on stock speakers in any flat screen tv.

Take my word for it, awesome tv. Awesome bang for your buck. Just remember, save yourself some time don’t read the negatives.

CustomerReviews

kworld 1680ex worked OK
This product worked out of the box without too much pain.

I took an unused: LCD monitor, verizon/motorola cable box, and dvd player; hooked them together using the 1680ex and ran the audio to the AUX input on an AM/FM radio.

Everything works fine for a second tv/DVD in the computer room.

picture quality: OK, sound quality: good

Worked so well I went looking for the high definition version of this product but couldn’t find it anywhere.

Kworld does not disappoint !
Why a 5-star rating ? Only because I need the YPbPr input featured in the 1680ex. I use this to route my DVD component output to play on my LCD display with the 15 pin D-sub. There is no competing product in town the last I checked. The image output can be selected for 1680×1050, 1024×768 or 800×600 monitors, and selectable for 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9, using either the buttons on the box itself or the same buttons on the remote. This is quite well thought out to allow different monitors or size to display the image.

BTW they provide the different connector cables for either composite/S-video or component inputs. You cannot do both S-video and component simultaneously. You use one or the other to plug into the gadget.

I have not tried the TV tuner but I have their ATSC tuner (a separate purchase) which provides an excellent reception via cable QAM. I cannot compare the image output of these too products because my DVD output only in 480P, while the cable reception is in 1080i.

Anyway, I am very happy that there is a product out there that allows DVD players to display output onto the standard LCDs.

Excellent Device
I purchased this device to be able to turn an old lcd computer monitor into a stand-alone tv. For this purpose, the device is excellent. The device is simple to set up, easy to program, and produces an excellent picture with standard cable reception. The device has a small built in speaker that I have not tried, and although it may be adequate, I am using inexpensive, plug-in computer speakers, that, I believe, would give a more wide range sound.

Easy and Affordable Solution
Bought this item when it was $50, and worth every dollar. I’m currently a student at a university, living in an apartment. I was hoping to find a way to use my 22″ lcd as a TV for game consoles, as well as a TV. The product looks sleek and delivers exactly what it states it will. Sure, outputting from my PS3 at 720p doesn’t look as sharp as it could on an hdtv, but its hundreds of dollars cheaper and gets the job done well enough.

PIP feature is very nice. Noticed that the stand doesn’t really work when all the cables are attached; the weight tips it over. Not too much of a problem, I just lay it on its side.

One issue potential buyers may worry about is the quality out to the monitor through the VGA, or the quality of the audio through the unit out to speakers. Audio from my pc into the box, then out again to my speakers is not very good. Audio from the box (from a game console), however, out to speakers is crisp and good quality. VGA out from a PC to the monitor through the box is fuzzy. I just run a DVI connection out to my monitor, as well as the VGA and switch between the two.

In all, a good product for $50 and an easy solution to convert a PC monitor to a TV.

Great
I bought this a year ago for 50 bucks. Great converter allows me to play my ps2 (now ps3) on my computer monitor. Allows composite and YPBR Component hookups. Component looks so nice, the only thing I can think of as a negative is it’s not HD compatible, but it works erfect as advertised. Also Great to convert your Monitor to watch television obiously (Standalone, no PC needed, just the monitor)

WARNING – FACTORY DEFECTS
This TV has cheaply made, inferior parts that frequently fail after a year or two. For more info check [...] or just web search “samsung clicking sound” or samsung won’t turn on”.

Basically, the cheap capacitors on the TV break after about 2 years of normal use. It leads to the TV no longer turning on. This can be fixed by replacing a few defective parts (they will cost about $1.50 each), but unless you are experienced with soldering electronic boards, you’ll have to pay someone to do it for you. Total cost will be around $200 through Samsung or your retail outlet, or you can take it to a repair shop and spend $50 to $100.

Samsung is well aware of this problem and unwilling to help the hundreds of thousands of customers who have had to deal with this issue. Factory warranty is for 1 year, and the parts conviently seem to last around 2 years. Samsung will not offer any help other than overpriced repair.

BTW – Based on my web research, this seems to be a problem with many samsung models, not just this one in particular. Buy Samsung TV’s at your own risk.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Warranty I bought was waste of $$$
Well I’ve had this TV now for about 2 years and It’s outlived my extended warranty. What a great TV, bright vivid colors and deep blacks. Awesome TV!!!

AWAITING SECOND REPAIR IN 6 MONTHS
We purchased this TV just after Christmas. It quit working (no signal, could not turn off or on) in April. After several weeks and two visits by the repair people to replace two boards, the TV was finally working again. Less than two months later it quit again – no signal received. This time we have been waiting two weeks again for the repair people and they are supposed to come tomorrow. Each time we have given the repair people our home phone and cell phone numbers but once the parts come in we still have to play phone tag for several days since they won’t call any number except our home phone and we are at work during the day. Samsung tells us that if it breaks once more during the year warranty they will finally replace. My fear is that it will break again just after the warranty has expired. We paid a lot for this TV and I feel that it was wasted and we now have no recourse! Also, when the TV does work the sound is horrible. We have better sound from old TVs that cost much, much less than this one did! Don’t buy a Samsung!

Unbeatable value. Excellent display.
Bought this set last July after 3 months of research. The features that sold me were:

The picture on standard def channels, since I did not plan on paying for digital programming. I hijacked the remote at Sears and flipped back and forth from standard to hi-def on every set they had. While not as clear as my old Sony analog, the clarity is far and above comparable LCD’s.

Looks great with my Samsung upconvert DVD player, and the onboard tuner picked up about 20 hi-def channels over my basic cable. The component connections generate a good picture as well. My kids’ VHS tapes and Nintendo Wii look great.

The low glare screen has been great, since I mounted the set in a very bright room. The high-gloss black finished can cause some reflection, but a small price to pay for a set that looks this nice.

10 months later, I am still extremely happy with the set. Especially since the price hasn’t dropped. Amazon has always treated me well with any purchase, be it $1500 or $5. I was not home for delivery, but my wife said that they were professional and courteous.

Excellent deal!
I’ll keep this short and sweet. Bought this unit for about 760. They’re still going for 1100 in the stores. Tv works flawlessly. Minor blemish on front side panel – can’t see it 95% of the time. Stand holds tv a few degrees off kilter, but not a problem. I will DEFINITELY buy again from here!

Do not buy from this company
I bought this TV from Walmart for a little over $600.00. The TV lasted about 6 months then just stopped working. No support from the company even though I had a dated receipt. Basically they told me to send it back at my own expense and tough luck. Tried to get it fixed but no repair shop will deal with this company. Do not waste your money on this shoddy product with poor company service.

Worse TV I have ever had
I gave this the lowest rating possible, you just have to do an internet search and see why. This was given to me as a Christmas gift in 2007, bought from Walmart ($700), less than 6 months, I noticed distortion of the picture in upper left hand corner. So, I went on the web looking for causes/problems. Did I ever get a wake up. Warranty not covering, I thought I will make the best of it, my problem was minor compared to others. Well today, turned tv on, heck of a racket after a few minutes, picture is all distorted and tv shuts off. Completely waste of money, Amazon take note of this!!!

Great TV But Not Made To Last
I bought this TV just over a year ago because out of about 40 televisions on display, this one had absolutely the best picture quality of anything in the store. For picture clarity, color and display, I give this TV 5 stars. However, after only about 9 months, we started having minor problems, such as, when the TV was turned off, the picture went off first and then the sound about 15 seconds later. We didn’t think much of it until the TV was about 11 months old and one morning it was “stuck”. You could watch the TV, and even change channels with the Satellite dish, but the remote didn’t work and the volume couldn’t be adjusted nor could you change the mode (ie. to put it into video mode to watch movies). We brought it to a TV repair shop and they said that the “brain” was not working. The part was still under warranty, but the repair shop was very reluctant to work on the ILO because they said that ILO is VERY slow at reimbursing for parts under warranty. I spent about $85 on the repair (labor only – not too bad). Another minor drawback is that you cannot synchronize this TV with your cable/satellite remote (so that you can just use one remote) because ILO is too new and it is not recognized by the sattelite company’s remote (DirecTV). Anyhow, it is not surprising that, in a time where cell phones and other electronic devices only last a year or two, that this is a pretty common problem. All in all, this is a great tv if you are fortunate enough to get one that lasts.
